Kangsadal Wongdusadeekul กังสดาล วงศ์ดุษฎีกุล น้องโหน่ง, WINNER OF 2008 MISS TIFFANY UNIVERSE Thai Ladyboy Contest in Pattaya, Thailand.

Nong Noang (her nickname) pictured above has won the title, Miss Tiffany Universe and judged to be the most beautiful ladyboy in Thailand – which really means, on the planet. Who can compare with Thai ladyboys except maybe Japan?

Here is a video of the winner during the announcement and receiving her crown. Tears were shed… how wonderful! (hahah):

Thirty ladyboys made it to the final. Their photos are below. Can you believe these are all (or once were) males???? I cannot. I can’t pick 5 out of the 30 and call them masculine enough to be a male.

Miss Noang has won 100K Thai baht as the grand prize and a new car, a Honda Jazz. The 2nd place finisher grabbed 40,000b cash and the 3rd place won 20,000b and some pats on the back.

Before the final votes were cast Nong Noang was asked this question:

“If you win the Miss Tiffany Universe 2008 contest, who is the first person you are going to meet the next morning, and what will you to say to that person?”.

She said, she’d meet her parents first thing in the morning to thank them for giving birth to her and for always being there and supporting her throughout her life, for standing by her every decision.

Guess that was good enough for the judges!

I’ve written about this topic before, but I just saw a post at another blog about, “Why Does Thailand have so many Ladyboys?” and decided to write my ideas again in a more easily understood post. Hopefully.

Why Does Thailand have so many Ladyboys?

Gender role differentiation is not really all that different here. Kids growing up are left to do as they will. Some Thai boys play with dolls and play girls’ games. Some play with trucks. Some girls play with trucks. Usually the big difference is that the boys are left to do WHATEVER the hell they want. Thai boys do anything they wish. Rarely, so rarely have I ever heard the command – don’t, here in Thailand. Only when the kids might be in danger. Sometimes a Chinese Thai will be big on discipline, but it’s not the norm here. Boys are left to develop as they will then. There’s not this machismo that is so strong in American, Latin, and other cultures. In fact maybe I’ve NEVER seen a Thai guy act in a way I would consider macho or especially manly. You know?

Ladyboys make bank. They can make decent cash, more so than they would fixing motorbikes or living off their girlfriend. It’s a safe alternative to selling drugs and an easier alternative than going to the university and becoming a politician. Those guys make the most money. You know what I just realized? Are there NO women politicians in this country? I don’t think I’ve seen any.

To me – these are the two overriding reasons there are more ladyboys here in Thailand than other nations.

Anyone else have ideas on the subject?

Welcome to a blog dedicated entirely to those mysterious boys and girls of Thailand… the “LADYBOYS!“.

I’ve only lived here in Thailand for a few years and I’ve seen quite a bit and learned quite a bit about Thailand’s “3rd sex” as they’re sometimes called. Ladyboys are an enigma that are not yet fully understood. Maybe only the surface has been scratched.

Ladyboys are all over Thailand and usually easy to find. They are “cliqueish” and tend to be in the same places year after year… making it easy for tourists to find them on their visits time after time.

Ladyboys are frequently in the news and are the source of endless entertainment as they are just so phenomenally different from other people in Thailand who tend to be reserved and mild-mannered. Ladyboys can be flamboyant, boisterous, coy, and extremely talented (see the ladyboy burlesque or dance shows in Chiang Mai and Phuket).

Ladyboys are like Thailand’s superstars… the good ones are at the top of the charts for celebrity status. The top forensic coroner in Thailand is a ladyboy!

Ladyboys are respected sometimes – when they act within the confines of normal Thai behavior. And a ladyboy might be scourged if she doesn’t act at all Thai and is lawless, ruthless, and conniving. They DO exist, and you might just hook up with one if you’re not careful!
