Thai ladyboys are going through a rough time right now. Thailand is suffering from low visitor numbers due to a couple of political issues affecting the country, as well as an almost schizophrenic handling of visa/immigration issues in the country.
On one hand immigration officials decide to offer free visas to tourists for a number of months during the slow season. On the other hand they turn around and cut in half the number of days one can stay with a visa on arrival to just 15 days.
Ladyboys, like bar girls at the tourist areas of Patong Beach, Pattaya, Patpong, Nana Plaza, and Soi Sukumvit, are getting desperate for cash. Robberies seem to be on the increase especially in Pattaya. But, maybe that’s just business as usual there during the slow season when nobody is making much cash.
Thailand is hoping for a good year in 2010. There are a number of incentives in place to lure tourists back but really the state of the nation depends heavily on some sort of political stability – or at least the appearance of it.
Red shirt rallies have begun again. Ex prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has gotta be missing his couple billion dollars (usd) at this point and must be planning something big to be able to return to the country and fark it up more than he already has. Trouble is – and this is good news – the red shirts that were part of the debacle in Pattaya just a few short months ago during the ASEAN summit have lost a lot of face in the country. They’ve lost some of their smarter supporters too.
Can Thai red shirts keep going… protesting until there is an election and the current prime minister steps aside for the democratic process to take place?
All remains to be seen as we get into the 2nd half of 2009. Ladyboys are hoping for a stable end of the year before the October tourist season gets into full swing.
